I want to say right from the outset, that my wife doesn’t know I’m writing this email to you. We’re enjoying a much more honest relationship now, but I thought I would make an exception because I needed to tell you personally how much you’ve helped bring my “real wife” back to me.

She started using Vicodin and OxyContin after a car accident in 2005. The pain was gone in about 9 months, but the pills stayed around for much longer. It wasn’t long before it had become the focal point of our lives. And not in a good way. She put those pills in front of everything, even our kids – who were actually starting to recognize when mommy had that “faraway” look in her eyes. Scary.

I took her to The Orchid as a kind of last resort. We had tried a couple of other programs, but they didn’t work out. She was back using in a matter of months after each one. Frankly, it was the fact that there were no men there that made me choose The Orchid. It wasn’t until much later – after seeing everything they did for her – that I realized “gender specific” treatment means more than that. They taught her WHY she kept using drugs after the accident. They changed her behavior in such a way that she wanted to exercise, or work on her career or be a better mother INSTEAD of getting high.

Now I have my wife back, and even though there are some days that are a struggle, for the first time in a long time, it feels like we’re moving in the right direction.

Our daughter went to The Orchid Recovery Center with a horrible drug addiction. Twice, we had been to the emergency room after she had overdosed. We got calls over the first few weeks of the program that she was lashing out and that we might have to come get her. But then, a funny thing happened. A miracle really. The negative calls stopped coming and we heard from the staff that she was doing really well. They told us about all the amazing things she was doing in the program and when we talked to her, we heard a familiar voice – it was our daughter, before she started using drugs. To this day, I still get up in the morning and thank God that we found the Orchid. They delivered our baby girl back to us.

Not sure when you hand you “reviews” for your staff, but I wanted to put in my two cents and make sure they got high marks for the kindness and compassion they showed my wife and myself during her time at the center. The Orchid is truly a treatment program unlike any other. It felt more like a family to me than clinical facility – yet the results are there every day for me to see in her eyes. I wrote a check to The Orchid, but it return you have given my family something priceless. Here’s to your continued success.

Without a helping hand from you and your team my family would not have had much to celebrate this Christmas. Instead, you have helped us reconnect with our daughter who is now clean and sober and ready to start college. We couldn’t have asked for a great gift this holiday season. My wife and I would like to say to all those families out there that believe they have lost their daughters, their sisters or their mothers, there is hope. I just wanted to thank you for the effort that you put into Carol’s recovery. She is so hopeful now, and feels like she can maintain sobriety for the long ha. Thanks to your staff, she understands now how she ended up in this predicament and what she needs to do in order to stay sober. As you say in the program, “she’s coming back a better person!”

I realize now that my wife is that “special one” in my life and that I need to give this my best shot. By aiding Carol’s sobriety, you have given us our best chance at a full and happy life.

The highest compliment I can give you is that if we lived closer, I would want you to be our marriage counselor. I found you to be honest and nonjudgmental in our weekly talks. Over the past 3 years I have met a lot of people who seem to be in the treatment industry for the money. It was a pleasure to meet someone who seemed to care much more about the patient and her family. Good luck to you in all your future endeavors.
