I remember the first time I walked into the Orchid – I was thinking about how comfortable I felt right from the get-go.   And once I got to know everyone I knew that first impression had been right on the money.   They really go out of their way to make you feel at home, and like you’re among family at the Orchid.

When I was using pills and coke, I felt like I was on a treadmill.   The faster I went the closer I came to getting thrown off.   The Orchid helped me get my feet planted on the ground and then go from there.   It’s not even like they made a bunch of wild promises either – just every day, step by step, they showed me how to live a healthier life and make better decisions.  There’s no secret to it.  It’s just all about having the right people there to care for you.   And that’s what I loved most about The Orchid Recovery Center…the people.

When I finally WOKE UP and realized that I needed I help, I decided that there were three things I wanted to do with my life:

1)   Stop using

2)   Get my career back in order

3)   Start exercising and taking care of my body again.

The Orchid helped me do ALL THREE!   I couldn’t imagine a better place for women to go who need to overcome their addiction.

I was 21 when I realized that I couldn’t stop using.   Now I’m 25 and I have been to four different rehabs in three different states.   Luckily for me, the last of these was The Orchid.   I found so much to live for during my time at The Orchid.  The other women in the program – not just the staff, but the other patients as well – supported me throughout the entire process.  I felt super-loved after feeling so low and so unloved for so long.   I walk around now and I just look at myself differently.  I have more pride and self-respect.   And I have been sober for 10 months!!!   It’s all thanks to The Orchid – which is why I tell anyone who’ll listen that this is the place addicted women need to be.

I started using OxyContin about four years ago. I had some lying around after oral surgery and thought, what the heck, it’s a cheap high. That cheap high turned into addiction pretty quickly. I was lying to my doctors, ordering god know what off of these Internet pharmacies and just chasing those pills wherever I could find them.

I lost a lot during that time. My fiancé dumped me and I got fired from my job, but even that didn’t stop me from using.

One night, in a rare moment of clarity, I was surfing the web looking for solutions – someway, ANY WAY, to stop all this nonsense once and for all.

I searched on “women” and “OxyContin treatment” and found The Orchid. The rest, as they say, is history.

I enrolled at The Orchid and from Day One, I felt like things were going to be OK. I always felt during my addiction like there was a sober person inside – but she needed help getting out. The Orchid Recovery Center provided me with that help. They gave me the tools I needed to stop using. And even better, they create this loving caring little family around you that makes you want to succeed!

I can’t say enough about the care and treatment I received at The Orchid. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

I wanted to wish a Happy New Year to everyone at The Orchid! Thanks to you, 2010 is going to be my best year ever. I’ve been sober since I left you this summer and I’m still doing lots of Yoga and running every day. I don’t think I would have ever picked up these activities if it weren’t for starting while I was at the facility. As I’ve said in the past, I’m living proof for you all that this program works! You will never know how grateful I am.

Dear Mindy,

I wanted to write you and the others at The Orchid to say thank you. I just celebrated my one year anniversary on August 18th, at my home group in AA.

It is hard to believe it has been a whole year since my 30 day treatment with you all. I want you to know how instrumental you all were to my recovery. Please know that what you do is working – as long as we are willing to do the work when we leave The Orchid.

My life today resembles the one I had a year ago very little. I LOVE being sober and and being free from all the anger and fear I had been carrying around with me my whole life. Thank you for giving me a rock solid foundation to begin my journey into a life of sobriety.

Please give my thanks to Olga, Melissa, Mags, Crystal and a special thanks to you Mindy – you have all given me my life back!

Love and regards,

I just wanted to take a moment and say that the tools of treatment and 12-step living taught at The Orchid work and continue to work for me in my life. Without them I would not have had the ability or the willingness to open myself, be honest and want sobriety back. I am forever grateful to The Orchid and everyone there for laying the foundation of my life in January.

Greetings to you all and wishing you a very happy new year. These past 2 days have centered on all that has happened in 2007 and how different this holiday season has been compared to just a year ago. It all began with a plane ride to south Florida last February and the people at a very special place called The Orchid. All of you touched my life and help me begin a foundation for opening my heart, healing and learning how to live again. I carry each of you, every one of those precious days in my heart and that has given me such strength and comfort through both good times and tough times. I am mindful of thanking God every day for my Orchid sisters. I’m blessed to have close contact with some of you and miss ALL of you!

So we come to the Orchid
All jumbled inside
All these new faces
And rules to abide!

Schedules and timesheets and goal sheets to do
What we really wanted to sleep,
And a cell phone too!

The Big Book before us, it’s text we do learn,
A solid recovery for which we do yearn!\
Whatever it takes we joyously say,
The 10th step we’ll do at the end of the day

When self-will runs riot our lives go to hell
But surrendering our will we shall surely do well!
We’ll each have a sponsor with whom we do talk
And it won’t be just talking, we will walk the walk!

Living the 12 steps we’ll be happy, joyous and free
Our friends in the fellowship are the people we’ll see.
A meeting each day is the path we will choose
For if relapse occurs we’ll have so much to lose.

We’ll do yoga and meditate and take time for self-care,
We’ll go to the salon to do our nails and hair!
The Bloom and The Orchid have helped us grow and with
Hard work and effort we’ll reap what we sow.

In conclusion, with service work, we’ll balance our lives
When we have a reunion we’ll give the high fives
Onward, upward and forward we go, with our wisdom
Acceptance and tool box in tow!
